Our work together began with this affirmation from St. Francis. We began with the necessary, moved to the possible, and now, and in the future we hope to achieve what at the beginning of our work may have seemed impossible.
Necessary - In each school, we had an honest look at students needs' and conditions for learning and used these to develop wonderings and possible actions that we make to have an impact on student learning.
Possible - We began exploring and digging deep into the mathematical content knowledge and then moved into actions such as number sense routines, number talks, small guided groupings, and increased use of manipulatives. We were guided through collaborative inquiry process by being focused on students' experience at all points.
(Seemingly) Impossible (at the beginning) - Into the future ... we hope that you can learn from our work and be inspired to jump into new ways of learning, collaborating, and exploring mathematics so that we can create the most effective mathematical learning environments for our children.
